An update on entries we’ve received (thus far) with 3 working days to go!

For those who have been wise enough to sign up to receive automated updates of new articles (as and when they are posted on this blog), we thought you deserved another tip, as follows:

spread of estimates for the summer 2008-2009 peak demand in the NEM

The image above highlights the range of entries we have received, to date.

We’ve received a large number of entries, from a wide range of market participants and observers, including:

  • A number from people who really do want the BBQ, and hence are submitting entries every day (as we allow); and
  • Some concerted efforts by individual companies (not mentioning any names) where it does appear that they have some agreement to share the BBQ around if they win!

Unlike entries in previous years (where there was a big spread of entries, as noted in the separate articles for summer 2005-06 and summer 2006-07) for summer 2008-09 we’ve seen a very pronounced convergence of “guesstimates” to be in, and around, 32,500MW.

As shown on the image above, a peak demand around that level would certainly seem plausible, especially in the light of the demand peaks highlighted for the 3 previous summers.

How you use this insight is up to you, but we think you can use this knowledge to increase your chances of winning the BBQ.

You have 3 more working days in which to submit entries:

  • Today, Tuesday 30th December
  • Wednesday 31st December
  • Friday 2nd January

Hence grab the crystal ball for another shot!
